Data Engineer – Remote (UAE)

About the role

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join a fully remote, international team supporting global organisations in the biotech, pharma and enterprise analytics sectors. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering and advanced data systems, designing and building scalable pipelines that feed analytics, machine‑learning and scientific decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines across multiple environments and data sources.
• Integrate structured and unstructured data into data warehouses and data lakes.
• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers and developers to ensure data quality, consistency and accessibility.
• Build and optimise ETL/ELT workflows for performance, reliability and maintainability.
• Define and refine database schemas, data models and technical documentation.
• Implement data governance, security standards and compliance best practices.
• Monitor data systems and continuously improve scalability and efficiency.

Required profile

• Strong backend‑oriented engineering experience with Python.
• Proficiency in building clean, scalable architectures using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django REST Framework or Flask.
• Solid understanding of SQL, database modelling and query optimisation.
• Hands‑on experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and integration of data from APIs, databases and streaming sources.
• Familiarity with distributed or large‑scale data processing concepts.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in distributed, international teams.
