Data Scientist – Institutional Planning & Effectiveness

About the role

The Data Scientist will support the Office of the Vice‑Chancellor for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness by turning data into actionable insights. You will develop descriptive, predictive and prescriptive models, conduct statistical analyses, and provide recommendations that improve academic quality, student success and overall performance of the university.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, clean and preprocess data from multiple sources for analysis.
• Design and implement machine‑learning models for prediction and prescription.
• Perform statistical analyses to support senior‑level decision‑making.
• Create data visualisations, dashboards and reports to communicate findings.
• Translate analytical results into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
• Prepare presentations and written reports for management.
• Collaborate with the Vice‑Chancellor’s office and support team members as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum four years of experience as a data scientist or in a comparable analytical role.
• Strong programming ability in Python or R.
• Experience with data‑analysis and machine‑learning libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow and Colab.
• Proficiency in data‑visualisation tools like Matplotlib, Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.
• Familiarity with big‑data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.
• Project‑management experience is a plus.
