Deputy Design Manager – Senior Cable Design Engineer

About the role

The Deputy Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer (Cables) will support the Design Manager in leading cable‑laying design activities for power distribution projects in Dubai. The role involves overseeing the creation of detailed design drawings, ensuring compliance with client and authority requirements, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the design of cable routes, route profiles, traffic diversions, de‑watering, sheath bending, end‑to‑end cable drawing installation, basement drawings and related working drawings.
• Analyse survey inputs to ensure GIS drawings meet client and stakeholder requirements.
• Review sketches and drawings for compliance with client specifications and local authority regulations.
• Evaluate feasibility of design concepts based on safety, serviceability and other factors.
• Present design drafts and reports to clients or design committees and incorporate required modifications.
• Finalize as‑built drawings, obtain approvals from all relevant authorities, and provide timely deliverables to project coordinators.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, local authorities and third‑party contractors for design‑related activities.
• Set targets for draftsmen, surveyors and other staff, monitor progress and take corrective actions to meet design milestones.
• Plan and supervise ground surveys, direct surveyors, draftsmen and charge‑hands throughout the design process.
• Ensure industry standards, safety and civil regulations are strictly adhered to during surveys and design work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognised university.
• 10–12 years of experience in power distribution/transmission cable‑laying design, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within the UAE/GCC.
• Strong knowledge of statutory rules and regulations from RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, JAFZA, Trakhees and related authorities.
