Director - Rolling Mill

About the role

A leading integrated steel manufacturer in the UAE is looking for a Director to lead its Rolling Mill 5 operation. The Director owns production, maintenance and material handling end-to-end, ensures smooth plant operation and makes sure the mill has the talent, processes and technology to deliver the business plan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, secure approval for and implement the annual operating plan, policies and procedures for the rolling mill
• Build long-term strategic plans to improve operational efficiency and productivity, aligned with company objectives
• Integrate new technologies and processes to improve mill performance and product quality, and advise all levels of the business on rolling mill matters
• Lead production, maintenance and support teams, define the optimum organisation structure, and recruit, train, appraise and develop plant employees and supervisors
• Plan and allocate resources, oversee processes, controls and work instructions, and personally resolve critical technical and production issues to minimise downtime
• Lead technical development of plant equipment and processes, and maintain a quality management system including nuclear-grade quality assurance (NQA) compliance
• Implement a systematic maintenance approach, capture maintenance costs per equipment and drive predictive and preventive maintenance
• Manage annual operating budgets, recommend the capital expenditure plan and lead asset condition and compliance reviews
• Champion a strong safety culture and ensure EHS compliance across employees and contractors

Required profile

• University degree in Engineering
• 10-15 years in manufacturing and management within the steel industry
• Minimum 5 years in a senior managerial position in steel manufacturing
• Minimum 5 years in rolling mills (long products)
• Proven track record of journal publications or patents in a technological field
• Fluent English; Arabic preferred
