English Department Lead (EYFS to KS5)

About the role

The English Department Lead will steer the strategic development and daily management of English across all key stages (EYFS to KS5) at International Community Schools. This senior position ensures high‑quality teaching, fosters a love of English, and drives academic excellence throughout the school.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dynamic leadership for the English department across primary and secondary phases.
• Develop and implement a clear vision and improvement plan aligned with the school’s development strategy.
• Line‑manage teaching staff and assistants, overseeing performance, CPD, and mentoring.
• Design, develop, and oversee a progressive English curriculum ensuring clear progression from EYFS to KS5.
• Model best practice, support lesson planning, and conduct regular observations and learning walks.
• Use assessment data to inform teaching, identify underachievement, and implement targeted interventions.
• Account for pupil outcomes, track progress, and devise strategies to raise achievement.
• Support pupils of all abilities, including SEND and EAL, ensuring appropriate challenge.
• Collaborate with other subject leaders, phase leaders, and senior leadership to align priorities.
• Uphold safeguarding policies and act as a professional role model.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree, PGDE/PGCE or Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant teaching and leadership experience.
• Proven ability to lead and develop staff, manage performance and deliver CPD.
• Strong understanding of national English teaching and assessment frameworks.
