Field Service Technician - Crane & Heavy Equipment

About the role

This Field Service Technician provides service support by phone, attends field breakdowns and repairs cranes promptly, and maintains service reports. The role also covers troubleshooting warranty issues, training distributors on commissioning new products and analysing technical problem trends.

Key responsibilities

• Provide service-related assistance by phone and attend field breakdowns to repair cranes in a timely manner
• Maintain service reports and submit them after each repair, and give feedback on component failures
• Train distributors in the commissioning of the first new product
• Analyse and troubleshoot warranty problems beyond the scope of the distributor or customer
• Work with MCG-based personnel on service materials, product requirements, availability and code compliance
• Plan and coordinate investigations of customer technical problem reports and analyse trends to recommend design, production, service and maintenance improvements
• Perform other ad-hoc duties as assigned

Required profile

• High school diploma with 5 years or more of technical service and support experience, preferably in the crane or heavy equipment industry
• OEM or dealer experience in heavy equipment/cranes is advantageous; specialist training in cranes or Manitowoc cranes is advantageous

Required skills

• Trade certificate in mechanical or electrical trades, with strong automotive and CANBUS electrical diagnostic skills
• Fault finding and diagnostics in electrical, hydraulic, engine, drive-line, braking systems and general maintenance of heavy equipment, LBCC and mobile cranes
• Ability to read and work with electronic and hydraulic schematics
