General Superintendent - Cell Design

About the role

The General Superintendent – Cell Design provides specialist expertise and internal consultancy for new cell design, lining material selection and process control across EGA’s aluminium smelting sites. The role combines advanced mathematical modelling with operational oversight to achieve optimal KPIs, cost efficiency and alignment with the company’s technical strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimisation of reduction cell technologies using thermo‑electric, thermo‑mechanical, electromagnetic, MHD and CFD models, validating and refining them through measurement campaigns.
• Collaborate with technical consultants, material suppliers, operations, process control, engineering and IT teams to implement design modifications that reduce energy consumption, improve current efficiency and extend cell service life.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise, mentor junior colleagues and conduct knowledge‑sharing sessions to meet team objectives.
• Monitor financial performance against budgets, report variances and ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental and quality policies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, develop in‑house modelling capabilities and stay abreast of technological developments through seminars and academic partnerships.
• Prepare accurate sectional statements and reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years as a Modelling Engineer.
• Proven ability to make technical decisions, evaluate design impacts and influence cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Proficient with CAE FEM/CFD software – preferably COMSOL or ANSYS.
• Experience using 3D CAD geometry tools (SpaceClaim, COMSOL geometry modeller or similar).
• Strong knowledge of physics, mathematics and aluminium production processes.
• Advanced MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills; familiarity with MATLAB and Power BI.
• Ability to conduct data analysis, validation and produce technical reports.
