Geriatric Psychiatry Consultant

About the role

The Geriatric Psychiatry Consultant will lead comprehensive psychiatric care for patients, conducting assessments, prescribing medication, and delivering therapeutic support within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Perform thorough psychiatric assessments, including diagnostic interviews and review of medical and educational records.
• Develop individualized treatment plans using psychopharmacology, psychotherapy (individual, family, group), and other evidence‑based interventions.
• Prescribe, administer, and monitor psychotropic medications for efficacy, side effects, and adherence.
• Provide crisis intervention and manage acute psychiatric distress.
• Maintain accurate, confidential patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Collaborate with psychologists, therapists, pediatricians, social workers, and other professionals to ensure coordinated care.
• Consult primary care physicians, school personnel, and community agencies on mental‑health needs.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
• Participate in case conferences, peer reviews, and departmental meetings.
• Adhere to medical, ethical, and legal standards; engage in continuing medical education.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized university.
• Residency in Psychiatry and fellowship/sub‑specialty training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Board certification in Psychiatry or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (e.g., MRCPsych, ABPN, CCT UK).
• Valid DOH license or eligibility to obtain one.
• Demonstrated expertise diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents.
