Head of Academic Events

About the role

The Head of Academic Events leads the strategy, planning and execution of MBZUAI's academic events portfolio within the Office of Student and Postdoctoral Affairs. This senior position is responsible for delivering high‑profile ceremonies and events on schedule, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage the annual academic events calendar, defining scope, scale and success measures for each event.
• Lead delivery of Commencement, IOAI and the wider academic events program, overseeing quality, schedule, cost and outcomes.
• Manage the delegated events budget, including forecasting, allocation and in‑year reallocation, and report financial performance.
• Lead procurement, supplier selection and contract approval for event services, ensuring value for money.
• Represent OSPA and MBZUAI with internal and external stakeholders, including government entities, sponsors and international partners.
• Manage and develop the Associate Head and extended delivery teams, building capability in event design, stakeholder management and budget control.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in event management, communications, higher education administration or related field; Master's preferred.
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in event leadership with senior accountability for portfolio, budget and people.
• Proven experience delivering large‑scale academic ceremonies and events involving heads of state, ministers or senior dignitaries.
• Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional teams, manage procurement contracts and handle live‑event incident management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency and PMP certification are a plus.
