Head of Electrical Department

About the role

Wood is seeking an experienced Head of Department – Electrical to lead the electrical engineering discipline for both on‑shore and off‑shore projects in Abu Dhabi. The role is responsible for delivering high‑quality engineering services, ensuring safety and compliance, and driving technical excellence for a high‑profile energy client.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Electrical discipline across on‑shore and off‑shore projects, ensuring engineering integrity, safety, and compliance with company and client standards.
• Manage discipline resources, optimise utilisation, and support workforce planning and budgeting.
• Drive business development activities, provide technical input to proposals and work‑share strategies.
• Provide line‑management for discipline engineers, including performance, career development and succession planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum 25 years experience on mega on‑shore/off‑shore projects (CAPEX > $2 bn).
• At least 5 years experience in a Head of Discipline or equivalent leadership role.
• Proven experience with ASSESS, Pre‑FEED, FEED and detailed design stages.

Required skills

• Electrical Power Systems design and analysis.
• In‑depth knowledge of IEEE, IEC and ISO standards.
• Pre‑FEED, FEED and detailed design methodologies.
• Capex management for large‑scale projects.
