Head of English

About the role

Aldar Education, a family of schools in the United Arab Emirates, is seeking a Head of English to join its growing network of schools, starting in January 2027. The role leads the English department, supports the school's vision and standards, and works within the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 framework.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement department policies and practices aligned with the school's vision and high standards of teaching and learning.
• Set, monitor and evaluate short, medium and long-term department plans, using data to identify underachieving students and act on them.
• Ensure schemes of work cover all year groups and courses, with provision for SEN, G&T and EAL students, and maintain curriculum continuity and progression.
• Establish policies for assessment, recording and reporting, and evaluate teaching and learning quality.
• Hold regular department meetings with minutes and agendas focused on raising standards.
• Control the department's resource and capital expenditure budgets and ensure a safe, healthy learning environment.
• Act as Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor for Year 12/13 students, cover absent colleagues, and invigilate exams, including at least one evening and one weekend external exam session.

Required profile

• BA in English Literature with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualifications and certifications.
• At least 6 years of teaching experience.
• Experience of the UK curriculum.
• Passionate, caring educator committed to an extensive enrichment programme.
