Head of Inclusion (ADEK Qualified)

About the role

The Head of Inclusion will steer the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s Inclusion Strategy, ensuring alignment with GEMS Education policies, ADEK requirements, UAE legislation and international best practice. This senior leader will embed inclusive practices across teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum, pastoral care and student wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Inclusion Department and provision across all school phases.
• Develop, implement and regularly review the school’s Inclusion Strategy and Policy.
• Coordinate identification, assessment, referral, support and monitoring of students with additional learning needs.
• Oversee creation, implementation and review of Documented Learning Plans, Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Support Plans and other personalised plans.
• Implement a graduated/tiered approach to support, ensuring universal, targeted and intensive interventions.
• Ensure teaching adaptations, curriculum modifications and assessment accommodations are applied.
• Develop the Inclusion Team, managing staffing and resources effectively.
• Collaborate with teachers, heads of department, pastoral teams, counsellors, admissions and senior leadership.
• Maintain partnerships with parents, external specialists, therapists and psychologists.
• Maintain accurate, confidential inclusion records and meet ADEK inspection and compliance requirements.

Required profile

• ADEK qualified candidate.
• Attested Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Inclusion or related field with equivalency.
• Valid teaching licence and IELTS/English medium of instruction certification.
• Minimum 2 years relevant teaching experience.
• At least 1 year experience in a senior inclusion role (e.g., SEN Coordinator, Head of Inclusion, Special Needs Director).

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICT tools to support teaching and learning.
