Health, Safety & Environment Officer

About the role

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer will join the university’s HSE department to lead and support day‑to‑day safety operations across the campus. You will work closely with academic faculties and professional services to ensure a safe learning and working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain HSE documentation, procedures and the university safety plan.
• Conduct site fire, risk and operational audits and prepare method statements and risk assessments for new projects.
• Coordinate external agencies, organise HSE‑related training and deliver health‑and‑safety inductions for staff and students.
• Lead campus incident investigations, report accidents, and drive continuous improvement of safety performance.
• Promote a strong safety culture and act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, providing advice and following up cases to resolution.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years (60 months) of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with academic and administrative teams.
• Commitment to safeguarding students and staff and to staying current with relevant legislation.
