iOS Engineering Lead / Senior

About the role

Sumara Technology builds mobile experiences for global users and is looking for an iOS Mobile Engineering Lead to architect and lead its native iOS development. The role leads a growing team of iOS engineers, oversees mobile app architecture and ensures high-quality, performant apps for millions of users. It is remote, based in the UAE, for a UK-based client with a preference for UK-hour alignment; Sumara will secure the UAE visa and work permit.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the iOS engineering team, mentoring junior and senior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance and professional development.
• Architect and design scalable iOS applications using Swift, SwiftUI and UIKit best practices.
• Establish coding standards, architectural patterns and engineering best practices for the iOS platform.
• Oversee the full development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and maintenance.
• Lead technical design reviews and system architecture discussions.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and backend engineers to turn requirements into robust mobile solutions.
• Promote modern tools such as Tuist for package management and boilerplate code generation.
• Ensure performance, uptime and scalability while keeping code quality high.
• Take part in hiring, onboarding and building a high-performance iOS engineering culture.
• Explore and evaluate emerging iOS technologies and frameworks.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional iOS development experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or mentorship role.
• Proven experience building production-grade iOS applications.
• Solid understanding of iOS architecture patterns (MVVM, VIPER, Clean Architecture).
• Knowledge of networking, concurrency and performance optimization.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and agile workflows.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, able to work across teams.
