Java Backend Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Engineer to join an advanced technology client in Abu Dhabi. The role focuses on designing and developing backend software for next‑generation cellular and secure communication systems in a distributed, performance‑critical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Research, design, and develop cutting‑edge cellular communication solutions using Kotlin, Java, Akka, Gradle, GitLab, and Docker.
• Design and implement backend systems based on Domain‑Driven Design (DDD), reactive architectures, and actor‑based models.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing.
• Build scalable, message‑based, high‑performance backend services.
• Collaborate with software engineers, system architects, and product managers to deliver robust technical solutions.
• Contribute to technological and architectural decisions within Agile, multi‑disciplinary teams.

Required profile

• BSc or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in Java and Kotlin software development.
• Self‑directed with strong planning and execution capabilities.
• Team player experienced in Agile environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and debugging skills.

Required skills

• Functional programming, message‑based communication, reactive programming, DDD, and TDD.
• Ability to read technical documentation and develop tools from specifications.
• Upper‑intermediate spoken and written English.
