Junior Instrument & Control Engineer (UAE Nationals)

About the role

Wood is seeking a graduate‑level Instrument and Control Engineer who is an UAE national to join its Oil, Gas & New Energies team in Abu Dhabi. The role is full‑time, office‑based and offers exposure to design, documentation and field activities on large energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support I&C design tasks including instrument selection, sizing, datasheet preparation and control philosophy development.
• Develop and review I&C documentation such as hook‑up drawings, cable schedules, instrument indexes, cause‑and‑effect diagrams and I/O lists.
• Assist with interdisciplinary coordination with process, mechanical, electrical and piping disciplines to integrate I&C requirements.
• Participate in site surveys, instrument inspections, loop checks and commissioning support to gain practical experience.
• Apply relevant standards (ISA, IEC, NEC, API) and contribute to control system studies, alarm rationalisation and SIL assessments under mentorship.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control, Electrical, Electronics or a related engineering discipline.
• Basic understanding of instrumentation principles, sensors, PLC/DCS and automation concepts.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams).
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and teamwork skills with a willingness to learn on the job.

Required skills

• SPI (INtools) or similar instrument data‑management tools.
• AutoCAD for drafting.
• Fundamental knowledge of PLC and DCS configuration.
• Familiarity with ISA, IEC, NEC and API standards.
