Junior Research Scientist – AI & Blockchain (NYU Abu Dhabi)

About the role

The Center for Technology, Economics, and Development (CTED) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Junior Research Scientist for an AI‑Blockchain project. The one‑year fixed‑term position (renewable on performance) supports advanced quantitative research on artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical modelling and computational analysis, focusing on commodities markets and economic development.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms, develop and evaluate machine‑learning models, and conduct optimisation and simulation studies.
• Analyse large, complex datasets using Python, MATLAB and related libraries.
• Prepare literature reviews, write research reports, concept notes and academic publications.
• Support experimental and field‑based research, including randomized controlled trials in emerging economies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics (with strong maths) or related field, with ≤5 years research experience; or a Bachelor’s degree with relevant research exposure.
• Extensive coding experience and a strong interest in economic and quantitative research; willingness to learn blockchain concepts.
• Preferable experience conducting field research in emerging countries and working on RCTs.
