Junior Research Scientist – Experimental Astro‑Particle Physics

About the role

The Division of Science at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Junior Research Scientist to join an active experimental astro‑particle physics group. The role focuses on the design, development and simulation of particle and radiation detectors for dark‑matter searches, gamma‑ray spectroscopy and space‑based applications.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and test organic and inorganic scintillators, photomultipliers, silicon photomultipliers and silicon drift detectors.
• Perform detector simulations using GEANT4 and related tools.
• Contribute to projects such as lunar X‑ray spectroscopy and dielectric haloscope dark‑matter experiments.
• Assist in the general management and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Collaborate with a diverse, interdisciplinary research team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics.
• Knowledge or experience in particle detector design and simulation.
• Enthusiasm for learning new techniques and working in a multicultural environment.
• Interest in rare‑event searches (e.g., axion or dark‑matter detection) and unconventional radiation‑detection applications.
