Junior Research Scientist – Geotechnical Engineering (SHORES)

About the role

The Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) within NYU Abu Dhabi’s Division of Engineering is hiring a Junior Research Scientist to support a geotechnical engineering research project. The work focuses on designing, testing, and analysing resilient and sustainable geotechnical systems using centrifuge modelling and complementary numerical simulations for infrastructure and energy applications.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, implementation, and analysis of centrifuge experiments.
• Integrate experimental findings with numerical models for validation and interpretation.
• Help develop innovative experimental apparatus; SolidWorks proficiency is a plus.
• Disseminate results through high‑quality publications in reputable journals.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of faculty, post‑docs, and students.

Required profile

• B.S. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a related field (any experience) or a Master’s degree with less than 5 years of research experience.
• Strong interest in geotechnical engineering and research.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an academic environment.
