Laboratory Technologist (Clinical Lab)

About the role

The Laboratory Technologist will perform a range of clinical tests within a hospital laboratory, supporting accurate diagnosis and patient care. Working under the supervision of the Chief Technician, the role ensures compliance with ISO 15189:2022 standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct biological, hematological, chemical, bacteriological, and serological analyses on samples such as blood, urine, sputum, water, and tissue.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate sophisticated laboratory instruments including pH meters, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis and chromatography systems, immunoassay analyzers, cell counters, analytical balances, and autoclaves.
• Prepare reagents, media, and solutions, adhering to aseptic techniques and ensuring accurate standardization.
• Perform microscopic slide preparation and observations, and assist in tissue preparation for pathology.
• Execute complete urinalyses and biochemical tests (liver, thyroid, renal, cardiac functions) as directed by professional staff.
• Participate in quality control and quality improvement activities, monitor QC data, and take corrective actions when needed.
• Maintain accurate records, specimen identification, and data entry in the Laboratory Information System.

Required profile

• Relevant laboratory science qualification or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work independently under supervision and follow established policies and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with medical staff and hospital personnel.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pH meters, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis and chromatography apparatuses.
• Experience using immunoassay analyzers, cell counters, analytical balances, and autoclaves.
• Competence in operating a Laboratory Information System.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and reagent preparation.
