Lead Instrument and Controls Engineer – Offshore Subsea Project

About the role

KBR is expanding its Project Management Consultancy team for a high‑profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The Lead Instrument and Controls Engineer will direct all instrumentation, control systems, functional safety and automation activities across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate I&C engineering from FEED through start‑up, managing a team of engineers and specialists.
• Develop and review instrument indexes, datasheets, specifications, loop diagrams and safety requirement specifications.
• Design and approve DCS, ESD, fire‑&‑gas, PLC, SCADA and integrated control‑safety system architectures.
• Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments and ensure compliance with IEC 61508/61511.
• Prepare technical requisitions, evaluate vendor bids, and monitor vendor performance.
• Integrate I&C systems with electrical, telecom and mechanical disciplines and support construction, commissioning and start‑up activities.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of instrumentation and control engineering experience in oil & gas, with at least 5‑8 years in a lead role on offshore EPC/EPCM projects.
• Proven experience with ADNOC Offshore or similar major offshore operators.
• Strong knowledge of functional safety standards, IEC, ISA, API and ADNOC specifications.

Required skills

• Instrumentation design, DCS, ESD, PLC, SCADA, ICSS, fire‑&‑gas detection systems.
• Functional safety engineering, SIL and LOPA assessments.
• Software: AVEVA Instrumentation, SmartPlant Instrumentation, AVEVA Engineering, AutoCAD 3D, Navisworks, Aconex.
• Control platforms: Honeywell Experion, Yokogawa Centum VP, Emerson DeltaV, Siemens PCS7, Schneider EcoStruxure.
