Engineer - Material

About the role

AECOM is seeking a detail‑oriented Engineer – Material to join its Abu Dhabi team. You will be responsible for selecting, specifying and optimizing materials for industrial and material‑handling projects, ensuring they meet performance, cost and sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct material analysis, selection and specification for industrial projects, including handling systems and structural components.
• Develop and maintain material specifications, technical datasheets and documentation in line with codes and standards.
• Perform material testing, quality‑control assessments and failure analysis to verify compliance.
• Collaborate with structural, mechanical and process engineers to optimise material choices for cost‑effectiveness and durability.
• Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to source materials, evaluate alternatives and manage procurement.
• Prepare detailed material reports, calculations and technical documentation for design reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in materials engineering and industrial projects.
• Advanced proficiency in design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, Revit or Navisworks.
• Strong knowledge of material properties across metals, composites, polymers and ceramics.
• Experience with material testing procedures, quality‑control protocols and compliance with industry standards.
• Professional Engineer registration (e.g., ECSA, PEng) is advantageous.
