Lead Well Planning and Operations Geologist

About the role

Crescent Petroleum is looking for a Lead Well Planning and Operations Geologist to manage all subsurface inputs for well design, trajectory optimisation, pore‑pressure and geomechanics modelling, and to provide real‑time operational support across exploration, appraisal and development wells.

Key responsibilities

• Lead systematic review of offset and analogue wells, execute rigorous QA/QC on drilling datasets and analyse historical NPT events to identify geohazards.
• Develop and manage Petrel‑based geological models, design and optimise deviated and horizontal well trajectories, and perform anti‑collision analysis respecting PPFG and geohazard constraints.
• Build and calibrate high‑resolution pre‑drill and dynamic PPFG models, define mud‑weight windows, and integrate real‑time pressure data for casing and liner recommendations.
• Produce Statement of Requirements and contribute to Basis of Design documentation, deliver end‑of‑well reports with root‑cause analysis, and oversee subsurface service procurement and QA/QC.
• Mentor junior staff, champion HSSE best practices and promote lessons‑learned across drilling operations.

Required profile

• Degree in Geology, Geoscience or related field (MSc/PhD preferred) with 15+ years of industry experience, preferably in fractured carbonate reservoirs and Middle‑East projects.
• Proven experience in well planning, PPFG modelling and operational geology within an international operator.
• Strong analytical, communication and cross‑disciplinary collaboration skills.

• Petrel software for geological modelling and trajectory design.
• PPFG (Pre‑drill Pressure, Formation Gradient) modelling and geomechanics analysis.
• Well trajectory optimisation, anti‑collision analysis and LWD/WL data integration.
• QA/QC of drilling datasets, mud‑logging and cuttings analysis (including XRD/XRF, isotope data).
