Material Technologist – Infrastructure Durability

About the role

Jacobs is seeking a senior Material Technologist to lead durability strategies for infrastructure projects across the Middle East. You will work with multidisciplinary teams on bridges, ports, rail, marine and building projects, ensuring materials perform under harsh environmental conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement durability strategies, specifications and material selections for infrastructure exposed to heat, corrosion and chemical attack.
• Assess material properties, conduct life‑cycle analyses and advise on quality control throughout construction and production.
• Provide expert guidance on inspection, maintenance and repair procedures to meet national and international standards.
• Collaborate with design‑build teams, offering solutions for concrete mix design, underwater concreting and crack repair.

Required profile

• Degree in Material Science from an internationally accredited university.
• 10‑12 years of experience in material durability for large‑scale infrastructure.
• Proficiency with durability modelling software and strong knowledge of Euro codes, DMRB and AASHTO.
• Familiarity with international and Middle‑Eastern specifications, including local municipality standards.
• Fluent English (Arabic desirable) and an open, collaborative attitude.

• Writing specifications for concrete, steel and protective painting systems.
• Performance specifications for cathodic protection systems.
• Durability studies and Life Cycle Analysis.
• Concrete mix design and condition assessment of existing structures.
• Crack repair techniques and underwater concreting.
• Thermal modelling (preferred) and knowledge of CIRIA 766 for Arabian Peninsula concrete.
