Materials Engineer

About the role

The Materials Engineer ensures that all materials used in municipal infrastructure projects meet approved specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, supporting durability, safety, and sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve material submittals for roads, pavements, stormwater systems, utilities and related infrastructure projects.
• Conduct inspections of materials during procurement, delivery, installation and implementation stages.
• Review laboratory test reports for soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, pipes, geotextiles and other construction materials.
• Provide technical advice on material selection, performance and lifecycle considerations.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, suppliers and testing laboratories regarding material approvals and quality issues.
• Maintain records of material approvals, inspections, testing results and compliance reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Engineering or related discipline.
• 5-8 years of experience in materials engineering, quality assurance or construction supervision, preferably in municipal infrastructure projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification preferred.
• Experience reviewing laboratory testing and material compliance reports.

Required skills

• Knowledge of asphalt, concrete, aggregate, soil and utility construction materials.
• Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
• Material testing and evaluation techniques.
• AutoCAD and engineering software (preferred).
• MS Office applications.
