Mechanical Design Engineer – Hands‑On Product Development

About the role

We are looking for a practical, hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys turning concepts, sketches and specifications into manufacturable products. You will work closely with research and engineering leaders to bring ideas from initial discussion through detailed design, prototyping and production.

Key responsibilities

• Translate whiteboard discussions, sketches and written specs into robust mechanical designs.
• Collaborate with researchers and technical leaders to develop production‑ready solutions.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and supporting documentation.
• Develop manufacturable designs that balance performance, cost and efficiency.
• Work directly with manufacturing partners, machine shops and production facilities to ensure successful fabrication.
• Support prototype development using 3D printing and rapid manufacturing techniques.
• Assemble, test and refine prototypes and mechanical systems.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability, materials and production methods.

Required profile

• Strong practical experience in mechanical design, drafting or mechanical engineering.
• Ability to convert conceptual discussions into detailed engineering designs.
• Hands‑on workshop experience with engineering hand tools and machine tools.
• Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on practical engineering solutions.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (other CAD platforms acceptable).
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, moulding, additive manufacturing.
• Experience designing metal and plastic components.
• Familiarity with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
• Basic finite‑element analysis (FEA) or ability to perform hand calculations.
• Understanding of sheet‑metal design, ceramics, moulding technologies and advanced manufacturing processes.
• Experience with moving assemblies, sealing systems and pressure‑containing components (up to 125 bar).
• Exposure to structural frame design and mechanical support structures.
