Principal Engineer – Aerodynamics & Missile Design

About the role

EDGE’s Advanced Concepts unit is accelerating the development of high‑technology autonomous systems, including precision loitering munitions and cruise missiles. The Principal Engineer will lead the design, analysis and optimisation of missile aerodynamics, structures, flight dynamics, controls, propulsion and stability, driving concepts from requirement definition through to performance validation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead conceptual design and performance studies for missile fuselage, wings and control surfaces, integrating aerodynamic and structural considerations.
• Apply high‑speed aerodynamics, heat‑transfer and store‑separation analysis to optimise missile performance.
• Conduct multi‑disciplinary optimisation (MDO), trade‑off studies and sensitivity analyses.
• Support the chief engineer with technical contributions and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in the UAS industry, including 5+ years in a senior or team‑lead role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of guided weapons and missile technology.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MATLAB and MS Office.
• Experience using CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) and low‑fidelity aerodynamics tools such as DATCOM.
• Advanced simulation expertise with ANSYS Fluent for CFD and CHT analyses.
• Working knowledge of jet propulsion systems (solid rocket motors and turbines) and missile control theory.
• Ability to run HPC clusters for large‑scale CFD simulations.
