Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer who will turn ideas, sketches and specifications into manufacturable products. Working closely with our research and engineering leadership, you will guide concepts from early design through detailed engineering, prototyping and production.

Key responsibilities

• Translate whiteboard discussions, sketches and written specifications into robust mechanical designs.
• Collaborate with researchers and technical leaders to develop concepts into production‑ready solutions.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and supporting technical documentation.
• Develop practical, cost‑effective designs that balance performance and manufacturability.
• Work directly with manufacturing partners, machine shops and production facilities to ensure successful fabrication.
• Support prototype development using 3D printing and other rapid‑manufacturing techniques.
• Assemble, test and refine prototypes and mechanical systems as required.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability, materials and production methods.

Required profile

• Strong practical experience in mechanical design, drafting or mechanical engineering.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (ability to transition quickly from other CAD platforms).
• Ability to convert conceptual discussions and requirements into detailed engineering designs.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, moulding and additive manufacturing.
• Experience designing components in metals and plastics and familiarity with 3D‑printing prototyping.
• Basic FEA knowledge or capability to perform hand calculations to support design decisions.
• Hands‑on workshop experience with engineering hand tools and machine tools.
• Proven ability to work effectively with external manufacturers, fabricators and machine shops.
