Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Outage Leader

About the role

Shou'alah is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer who can act as outage leader. The role ensures the performance, reliability and safety of mechanical systems through inspections, troubleshooting, repairs and preventive, corrective and condition-based maintenance. It also involves organizing, preparing and executing planned outages (boilers and later steam turbines) under the supervision of the Senior Mechanical Engineer and Maintenance Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and organize planned boiler outages with the scheduler and other maintenance engineers: scope definition, planning, contractor selection, preparation, execution, commissioning and reporting
• Supervise and manage contractors during outages and other projects, and ensure safety rules are followed
• Optimize the maintenance program (preventive and condition-based) based on OEM guidelines, industry practice and monitoring data to meet availability targets within budget
• Collaborate with other maintenance engineers and production teams to improve equipment performance and reliability
• Help prepare budgets, suggest actions and priorities, and write clear scopes of work
• Take part in tenders and contractor selection with procurement
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical failures and identify root causes
• Support Management of Change (MOC) and record equipment installations, malfunctions, maintenance and repairs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• At least 5 years as a mechanical engineer, with substantial experience in welding, fabrication or rotating equipment
• Experience with boiler, turbine and plant major turnarounds
• Familiarity with waste-to-energy assets such as boilers, pressure vessels, conveyors, pumps, compressors, fans, exchangers, storage tanks and piping
• Experience in waste-to-energy, power generation or continuous-fire industries is a plus
• Excellent reading, writing and verbal English

Required skills

• Knowledge of HSE standards, procedures and requirements, including pressurized gases, chemicals and lasers
• Use of a CMMS and related software
• Ability to lead a large group of external contractors during outages and to train others
