Medical Laboratory Assistant

About the role

American Hospital Dubai is hiring a Medical Laboratory Assistant. The role covers receiving and processing laboratory samples, liaising with medical staff on test requirements, and maintaining professional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and accession laboratory samples and verify orders by matching physician orders with specimen labelling and sample types.
• Sort and prepare samples for analysis (e.g. centrifugation, aliquoting) and load them on the Aptio module.
• Distribute samples to the appropriate departments and liaise with medical and nursing staff on test requirements and reporting queries.
• Order, prepare and package referred-out samples, and follow up on referred-out results.
• Monitor stock and order laboratory consumables as needed.
• Prioritize workload efficiently and maintain professional standards according to local regulations and CAP and JCIA accreditation standards.
• Take part in quality improvement activities, incident follow-up, monthly focus groups and continuing education.

Required profile

• High school graduate; a diploma in Medical Laboratory or Phlebotomy is preferred.
• At least one year of experience in phlebotomy or a related field.
• Fluent speaking and writing in English.

Required skills

• Knowledge of laboratory procedures and general computer applications is preferred.
