MEP Design Engineer – Electrical

About the role

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and coordination of electrical systems in construction and renovation projects. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, the role involves preparing technical drawings, load calculations, and system layouts while ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop electrical system designs, including single line diagrams, load schedules, lighting layouts, power distribution and ELV systems; perform short‑circuit, voltage‑drop calculations and cable sizing.
• Prepare technical reports, BOQs and material specifications; conduct design reviews and clash detection to resolve coordination issues before construction.
• Ensure all designs comply with IEEE, NEC, IEC and local authority standards such as ADDC, ADM and Civil Defense; support energy‑efficiency and sustainability goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably within MEP or hotel construction projects.

Required skills

• Electrical system design (power distribution, lighting, ELV, grounding).
• Load calculations, short‑circuit studies and Single Line Diagram creation.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Dialux and ETAP.
• MEP coordination with HVAC, plumbing and fire‑protection teams.
• Knowledge of IEC, NEC, IEEE, DEWA, ADDC, ADM and ESTIDAMA standards.
• Lighting design, ELV systems (BMS, access control, CCTV, fire alarm, telecom).
• Voltage‑drop and short‑circuit analysis, specification writing and BOQ preparation.
• Implementation of energy‑saving and green‑building practices.
