Metrology, Inspection and Product Quality Manager
AL TARIQ · Abu Dhabi
Job description
About the role
EDGE is an advanced technology group based in Abu Dhabi, and its Powertech centre of excellence designs, engineers and manufactures combustion engines, turbojets and turbofans for aerospace, defence and autonomous applications. The Metrology, Inspection and Product Quality Manager leads inspection and metrology technology strategy, develops inspection methods and holds product approval authority for Powertech propulsion programs such as turbofan, microjet and piston engines. The role combines inspection and metrology engineering with product quality authority over supplier advanced product quality planning, production part approval and first article inspection, working closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrialization and Supplier Development, Supply Chain, Assembly and suppliers.
Key responsibilities
- Define and lead the inspection and metrology technology roadmap and capital investment for equipment such as CMM, optical systems, laser scanning, industrial CT, in-process gauging and inspection automation, and set up the metrology laboratory and incoming inspection facility.
- Hold final approval authority for supplier product approvals and govern review of supplier APQP submissions (process flow, PFMEA, control plans, MSA) in line with AS9145, and first article inspection reports per AS9102.
- Own inspection and metrology activities during NPI, define inspection concepts, datum strategies, tolerance verification and measurement plans, and define key characteristics with Design and Manufacturing Engineering so they flow down to supplier control plans.
- Manage material review records, coordinate disposition with Design Engineering, and govern supplier concession and deviation requests, including technical justification, containment and read-across assessment.
- Govern design change implementation so suppliers receive only released, revision-controlled drawings and formal change notices, and ensure change classification affects FAI, PPAP and inspection plans correctly.
- Influence design for inspectability, tolerances and datum schemes, provide metrology input at design reviews and tolerance trade studies, and identify inspection risks early.
- Lead supplier inspection readiness, approve supplier inspection plans and gauging, define incoming inspection strategies and sampling, and conduct or direct source inspection and on-site verification.
- Build, lead and mentor the metrology, inspection and product quality engineering team, assign Product Quality Engineers to programs, and establish inspection and product approval standards and governance aligned with aerospace quality requirements.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Manufacturing or Metrology Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in aerospace inspection, metrology, product quality, supplier quality or industrialization.
- Preferred: proven experience leading inspection systems during NPI, FAI and production readiness; experience building a product approval or inspection function from an early stage.
- Preferred: demonstrated authority-level experience approving supplier APQP, PPAP (AS9145) and first article inspection (AS9102) submissions, which is described as essential.
Required skills
- Strong expertise in GD&T, datum systems, measurement uncertainty, measurement systems analysis and inspection capability.
- Working knowledge of statistical process control, process capability assessment, AS9100 and aerospace special process requirements including NDT qualification frameworks.
- Experience with nonconformance and material review processes, concession management, configuration and change management, and working with suppliers, equipment vendors and cross-functional engineering teams.
What we offer
- A learning academy and digital learning platforms with opportunities to develop new skills and advance careers.
