MLRO / Deputy MLRO (Dubai)

About the role

The company is looking for an experienced MLRO or Deputy MLRO to lead its AML/CTF/PF framework across its UAE operations in Dubai. The role oversees regulatory compliance for payment services and digital-asset activities, maintains relationships with UAE regulators and gives the Board and senior leadership strategic guidance on financial crime risks. A background in the cryptocurrency or digital-assets industry is preferred.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the MLRO / Deputy MLRO for the UAE operations and build a strong compliance culture.
• Ensure policies and controls meet AML/CTF/PF regulatory requirements in the UAE.
• Develop and manage the business-wide risk assessment, update the Board on the state of AML programs and escalate significant risks.
• Monitor regulatory developments in the UAE, especially around VASP and SVF licences, and keep stakeholders informed.
• Maintain relationships with regulators such as the Central Bank of the UAE and VARA.
• Oversee implementation of financial crime compliance policies for payment services and crypto asset activities, and deliver AML/CTF/PF training to employees, board members and stakeholders.
• Liaise with internal and external parties to ensure accurate reporting to regulators, and monitor and report suspicious activity to the FIU and respond to law enforcement requests.
• Carry out regular internal reviews, prepare action plans to fix compliance shortfalls and escalate recommendations to senior leadership.

Required profile

• At least three years of relevant experience in a regulated financial institution, a regulatory authority, or a law firm handling AML and payments services compliance.
• A locally recognised qualification related to the role in the UAE.
• Experience in the digital assets industry (cryptocurrency) is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of AML regulations and payments services legislation in the UAE, including crypto assets.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, able to work across cultures and in a matrixed international environment.
