Onboard Software Solutions Engineer

About the role

The Onboard Software Solutions Team creates, configures and deploys onboard software for satellites, adapting agnostic software to each satellite architecture and handling its development, testing and release. The role also tackles real-time issues on live missions. Orbitworks, building on Loft Orbital's heritage, is the first UAE commercial firm to mass-manufacture satellites and is based in Abu Dhabi.

Key responsibilities

• Streamline the creation, integration, validation and release of onboard software by improving test coverage, automating testing and reducing time from feature development to availability on-orbit.
• Configure standard onboard software components for customer payloads and support their deployment and troubleshooting internally and externally.
• Own and evolve the tools for onboard software creation, versioning, testing and release management, with transparent status tracking for all stakeholders.
• Work closely with the Engineering and Satellite Operations teams to ensure rapid, reliable and thoroughly tested deployments.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Flight Software Engineer, Software Integration Engineer, Software Test Engineer or Software Engineer focused on automated testing.
• Ability to troubleshoot and clearly communicate issues and solutions.

Required skills

• Python and C++
• CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI, TeamCity or Travis CI
• Automated testing frameworks
• Data serialization/deserialization (YAML, JSON, CUE)

Nice to have: Embedded Linux operations, build systems (Make, CMake), networking (UDP, TCP, IP), software integration, and experience near satellite operations.
