Ophthalmology Specialist

About the role

Bareen International Hospital in Abu Dhabi is recruiting an Ophthalmology Specialist. The specialist ensures that ophthalmological care meets DoH standards, monitors the quality of care within established guidelines and takes part in the review of difficult and special cases.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor eye care daily to ensure DoH standards are met and participate in the review of difficult and special cases
• Keep informed about current developments in ophthalmology and stay available for consultation after working hours
• Coordinate with the Head of Department on programmes combining curative and preventive aspects of total patient care, and take part in implementing approved curative and preventive programmes
• Take an active role in teaching nursing and ancillary staff, orient new staff when requested and communicate regularly with the HOD and colleagues
• Participate in committees and quality-related activities as requested by the Medical Director
• Observe medical regulations and policies, especially infection control, patient safety, assessment and care
• Perform other duties as requested by the HOD

Required profile

• At least 3-5 years of post-qualification experience at specialist level, independent of country
• At least 1 year of specialist-level experience from a Tier 1 country as defined by the UAE healthcare regulator
• Basic medical degree and a recognised specialty qualification (fellowship or diploma)
• Certification and registration in a specialty recognised by the UAE healthcare authority
• Eligibility for registration, such as membership of a Royal College, Arab Board Certification, MS, DM, MPhil or equivalent

Required skills

• Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
• Knowledge of infection control, patient safety and patient assessment
