Outpatient Medical Coder (Immediate Joiner)

About the role

Royal Health Al Salam Specialized Hospital in Abu Dhabi is hiring a full-time Outpatient Medical Coder who can join immediately. The coder reviews outpatient medical records, diagnoses, procedures and services and translates them into accurate ICD, CPT, HCPCS and other applicable codes to support billing, reimbursement, reporting and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Review outpatient medical records, physician notes, diagnostic reports and other clinical documentation.
• Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes based on the documentation provided.
• Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and applicable modifiers, ensuring correct sequencing of diagnoses and procedures.
• Identify missing, unclear or conflicting documentation and coordinate with clinical or coding teams for clarification.
• Review encounters for accuracy, completeness and compliance, and flag potential coding errors and denials.
• Support denial management and provide coding-related information when required.
• Take part in internal audits, quality reviews and coding education, and stay current with coding guideline and payer policy changes.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and meet productivity and accuracy standards.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Coding, Health Information Management, Medical Records, Healthcare Administration or a related field.
• Preferred: professional coding certification such as CPC, CCS, CCA or equivalent; previous outpatient coding experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS, and understanding of outpatient coding guidelines and medical terminology.
• Familiarity with anatomy, physiology and common medical procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and coding software.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills, and good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and meet productivity targets.

The role reports to the Coding Supervisor, HIM Manager or Revenue Cycle Manager within the Health Information Management / Medical Coding / Revenue Cycle Management department.
