Painting & Coating Inspector

About the role

Bureau Veritas is hiring a Painting & Coating Inspector in Abu Dhabi, reporting to the Team Leader and working closely with the IND Manager, Project Manager, Technical Manager and customers. The inspector reviews and approves painting, coating and wrapping procedures, carries out inspections and ensures compliance with international codes and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve contractors' painting, coating and wrapping procedures
• Inspect surface profile and chloride contamination tests as per applicable standards
• Monitor weather and equipment condition during painting and coating operations
• Ensure approved paint manufacturers and valid pot life, and that coatings follow manufacturer data sheets and approved specifications
• Check dry film thickness, holiday detection and pinhole detection, using calibrated equipment
• Witness surface preparation, bonding agents, elastomers, wrapping and curing on riser pipes and clamps, including post-curing tests (hardness, spark, sound, adhesion, visual and dimensional checks)
• Monitor CTE coating, heat shrink sleeves, field joint holiday tests and offshore pipeline wrapping and doping
• Identify non-conformities, approve corrective actions and recommend Bureau Veritas interventions based on the quality plan
• Report daily inspection results and non-compliances to the Team Leader

Required profile

• NACE / CSWIP / British Gas Painting Grade II or an approved equivalent
• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or HNC
• Site safety induction and sea survival course for offshore sites
• Minimum 5 years as an inspector/technician, 8 as an engineer surveyor or 10 as a senior engineer surveyor in a similar field
• Results-oriented, service-driven and problem-solving, with customer focus and compliance with HSE policies and ethics

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS codes and standards
• Experience with painting and coating inspection and application of project specifications
• Ability to select the most appropriate inspection technique and stay updated on developments in painting and coating
