Plant Operations Manager

About the role

The Plant Operations Manager manages the stores, quality control, planning, process control, production and maintenance departments so that quality, efficiency and delivery meet company standards and plans. The role also covers leadership, budget and cost control, and ensures the plant runs efficiently and effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operational policies, procedures and controls, and ensure legislative requirements are met while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers.
• Lead the operation department by setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff, giving feedback and appraisals, and establishing improvement plans.
• Maintain an optimal organisation structure, contribute to annual CAPEX and production budgets, and prepare the plant manpower budget based on current and forecasted orders.
• Run production so that labour, material and equipment are used efficiently, rejections, waste and defects are minimised, and manufacturing costs are contained.
• Ensure all production orders and transfers are processed through the Baan system, and that preventive and corrective maintenance plans are followed to minimise breakdowns.
• Control stores and raw materials, consumables and spare parts according to maximum and minimum stock levels.
• Provide timely schedules to Sales and Projects so they can commit to clients, and ensure products meet quality standards and accreditations.
• Comply with safety, quality and environmental policies, identify employee training needs, and liaise with internal departments and external partners such as suppliers, inspectors and auditors.
