PLC & SCADA Engineer for Water & Wastewater Plants

About the role

The PLC & SCADA Engineer will design, program, test, commission, troubleshoot and maintain PLC, HMI and SCADA systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will integrate instrumentation, electrical systems and field devices to ensure reliable plant operation and compliance with project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Design PLC control systems, develop software, and configure SCADA/HMI applications for plant monitoring and control.
• Prepare control philosophies, I/O lists, network architecture and automation documentation; review P&IDs and electrical drawings.
• Develop PLC programs for treatment processes and configure communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC).
• Create graphical SCADA screens, configure alarms, trending, reporting and user security.
• Perform FAT and SAT, commission systems on site, conduct I/O testing, loop checking and support start‑up activities.
• Coordinate with instrumentation, electrical and mechanical teams and document functional design specifications, operation manuals and as‑built reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation Engineering.
• 3–8 years of industrial automation experience, with at least 5 years on water or wastewater treatment projects.
• Experience with PLC platforms (Siemens S7, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, Mitsubishi, Omron) and SCADA platforms (Siemens WinCC, FactoryTalk View, WinCC Unified, Weintek).

Required skills

• PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen‑Bradley RSLogix, etc.).
• SCADA development and HMI configuration.
• Industrial networking protocols: Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC.
• Instrumentation integration (flow, pressure, level, pH, conductivity, DO, turbidity, chlorine analyzers).
• Commissioning, FAT/SAT, troubleshooting and documentation.
