Principal Engineer - Embedded Software (E&E)

About the role

EDGE Group’s ADVANCED CONCEPTS unit is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of high‑performance embedded software for autonomous aerospace and defence systems. You will work on cutting‑edge platforms ranging from micro‑controller based flight controllers to NVIDIA Jetson‑powered AI processors.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and design complex embedded systems while respecting real‑time constraints, power budgets and limited resources.
• Develop and maintain bare‑metal firmware for Cortex‑M microcontrollers (STM32, NXP LPC, Microchip PIC).
• Implement and support RTOS‑based firmware using FreeRTOS, mbed or ThreadX.
• Write Linux device drivers and kernel modules for custom hardware.
• Create user‑space multimedia applications using V4L2, GStreamer and FFmpeg.
• Optimize AI workloads on Jetson platforms with Linux BSP, CUDA, cuDNN and TensorRT.
• Integrate communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, CAN) in both Linux and microcontroller environments.
• Develop network clients/servers over UDP, TCP/IP.
• Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards and maintain version control (Git/SVN) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead technical discussions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in embedded software development using C/C++.
• Deep knowledge of ARM64 and Cortex‑M architectures.
• Proven expertise in Linux driver and kernel development.
• Extensive experience with bare‑metal firmware and RTOS environments.
• Strong background in I2C, UART, SPI and CAN protocol implementation.
• Hands‑on experience with Jetson Linux BSP and NVIDIA JetPack SDK.
