Principal Engineer - Embedded Software

About the role

EDGE’s Advanced Concepts division is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of high‑technology autonomous systems. You will own the architecture of complex embedded solutions, ensuring they meet real‑time, power, and resource constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and design embedded systems for unmanned aerial vehicles, loitering munitions and guided artillery.
• Develop and maintain bare‑metal firmware for Cortex‑M microcontrollers (STM32, NXP LPC, Microchip PIC).
• Implement and support RTOS‑based firmware using FreeRTOS, mbed or ThreadX.
• Write Linux device drivers and kernel modules for custom hardware, and create user‑space applications with V4L2, GStreamer and FFmpeg.
• Optimize software on NVIDIA Jetson platforms using JetPack SDK components (CUDA, cuDNN, TensorRT).
• Integrate communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, CAN) and develop network clients/servers over UDP/TCP/IP.
• Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards and manage version control (Git, SVN) within CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing across teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics or Software Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Proven ability to work independently on multiple projects and deliver high‑quality results.
• Strong analytical, debugging and problem‑solving skills.
