Principal Engineer - Embedded Software

About the role

AL TARIQ’s Advanced Concepts division is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design and implementation of high‑performance embedded software for autonomous aerial and missile systems. You will work on cutting‑edge hardware platforms, from microcontroller‑based flight controllers to NVIDIA Jetson modules, delivering robust, real‑time solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and design complex embedded systems with strict real‑time, power, and resource constraints.
• Develop and maintain bare‑metal firmware for Cortex‑M microcontrollers (STM32, NXP LPC, Microchip PIC).
• Implement and support RTOS‑based firmware using FreeRTOS, mbed or ThreadX.
• Write Linux device drivers and kernel modules for custom hardware.
• Create user‑space multimedia applications using V4L2, GStreamer and FFmpeg.
• Optimize software on Jetson platforms with Linux BSP, NVIDIA JetPack SDK, CUDA, cuDNN and TensorRT.
• Integrate communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, CAN) in both Linux and MCU environments.
• Develop Linux client/server applications over UDP/TCP/IP.
• Lead code reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor junior engineers.
• Utilise version control (Git/SVN) and CI/CD pipelines for reliable delivery.
• Perform hardware debugging with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic or Software Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in embedded software development using C and C++.
• Deep knowledge of ARM64 and Cortex‑M architectures.
• Proven expertise in Linux driver and kernel development.
• Hands‑on experience with bare‑metal and RTOS firmware.
