Principal Engineer – Systems

About the role

EDGE is looking for a senior Systems Engineer with at least eight years of experience in defence, aerospace or mission‑critical environments. The role involves supporting the full systems‑engineering lifecycle for national, international or coalition solutions, from concept through integration, verification and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Message Standards protocols team and design large‑scale C4I systems, covering standards such as Link‑16, MIP, VMF, FFT and ADATP‑3.
• Develop interoperability capabilities across interfaces and analyse data‑transfer protocols.
• Support the entire systems‑engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, traceability and decomposition.
• Participate in system architecture development, design reviews, technical assessments and trade studies for C2 or integrated mission systems.
• Coordinate with software, hardware, network, cybersecurity and test engineering teams while maintaining engineering documentation (SS/SSS, IRS/ICDs, integration plans, test procedures and reports).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum eight years of systems‑engineering experience in defence, aerospace, security or other mission‑critical environments.
• Proven experience on defence development programmes or large‑scale integrated systems.
• Strong understanding of systems‑engineering methodologies, lifecycle processes and requirements‑management tools.

Required skills

• C4I systems and Message Standards protocols (Link‑16, MIP, VMF, FFT, ADATP‑3).
• Enterprise Architect, Jama Connect, DOORS, JIRA.
• Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and INCOSE practices.
• MIL‑STD frameworks, NATO interoperability standards.
• Secure communications architectures and cybersecurity considerations.
