Principal Engineer - Test and Verification

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Engineer specializing in Test and Verification to lead the testing, verification and acceptance of a complex Defence Tactical Data Link, Communications and Command & Control (C2) system. The role will involve planning, coordinating and executing verification activities throughout the programme lifecycle and supporting earlier design and integration phases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain verification plans, strategies, acceptance criteria and both automated and manual test methodologies for defence communications and C2 systems.
• Analyse system and subsystem requirements to define verification methods and ensure traceability within the digital engineering environment (Enterprise Architect, Jama Connect).
• Create and execute test cases covering functional, interface, network, operational scenario, performance and regression testing.
• Support integration lab, factory acceptance, site acceptance and operational acceptance activities.
• Record, analyse and report test results, anomalies and defects through formal metrics, summary test reports and defect reports.
• Utilise automated toolsets for HMI, API and network‑level testing and manage associated defects.

Required profile

• Degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in test and verification for defence communications, C4ISR or other mission‑critical systems.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering processes and system lifecycle.
• Proven experience designing and executing structured verification activities, V&V methodologies and complex test cases.
