Principal Engineer – Vertical Transportation

About the role

WSP Middle East is looking for a highly experienced Principal Engineer specializing in Vertical Transportation (VT). You will lead the design of lift and escalator systems for a wide range of building types, ensuring compliance with international and local codes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop VT design concepts, calculate lift numbers, sizes, and speeds.
• Prepare design stage reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Produce technical reports and present designs to clients and stakeholders.
• Coordinate meetings with project design teams, VT suppliers, and specialist subcontractors.
• Liaise with local authorities to obtain approvals at all project stages.
• Collaborate with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, telecom and IT engineers.
• Participate in design reviews, workshops, and client presentations.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in lift and escalator engineering or vertical transportation consultancy.
• Degree in lift & escalator engineering, electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of EN 81 codes, ASME series, and Middle East building regulations.
• Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high‑quality technical documentation.
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong client communication skills.
