Principal HSE Engineer - Technical Safety & HSE Design

About the role

McDermott is looking for a Principal HSE Engineer (Technical Safety / HSE Design) in Dubai. The role leads the engineering discipline for large, complex offshore EPC projects, especially process-intensive ones, and acts as Lead Engineer for the discipline. It suits someone with an extensive background in safety studies and loss prevention, offshore gas compression projects and EPC project leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the discipline engineering design of the assigned work area within schedule, budget and standards, and direct all aspects of discipline execution, including scope, deliverables, schedule and manpower.
• Review and approve HSE and fire protection philosophies, safety study scopes, safety and firefighting equipment lists, firewater hydraulic calculations (e.g. with PIPENET), escape routes, safety signs and third-party safety study reports.
• Coordinate safety workshops such as HAZID/HAZOP, review safety study close-out reports, and prepare and approve the safety study action monitoring system and SHEAMS tracking register.
• Prepare estimates for bids, including technical queries, execution statements and manhour estimates, and raise change notifications and variation orders.
• Interface with other disciplines, Planning, Fabrication, Marine and Project Management teams, and act as project representative for the discipline with customers, certifying authorities and auditors.
• Assist procurement in requisitions, technical quotations, bid tabulations and purchase requisitions, and review vendor and subcontractor submittals.
• Approve design verification through single-discipline checks and interdisciplinary checks, and provide technical support to fabrication and construction queries.
• Mentor and supervise engineers, capture lessons learned, and respond to customer and agency reviews.

Required profile

• Extensive safety studies and loss prevention background.
• Experience in offshore gas compression projects and as an EPC project lead.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas, influence outcomes and lead a large engineering team.
• Experienced in multiple office project execution.
