Principal Pipeline Welding Engineer

About the role

The Principal Pipeline Welding Engineer will lead the welding engineering discipline for onshore and offshore projects, providing expert guidance and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This senior position requires independent problem‑solving and the ability to drive best practices across complex welding initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Define and manage the Welding Qualification Execution Plan, including scope, schedule, and consumable requirements.
• Review, approve, and communicate project weld procedures with customers and certifying authorities.
• Select appropriate electrodes and consumables based on material properties, corrosion resistance, and economic factors.
• Oversee welding school facilities to train workforce and improve workmanship.
• Support development and implementation of automatic welding systems.
• Estimate, requisition, and monitor welding consumables for bids and project execution.
• Conduct readiness reviews for offshore campaigns and collaborate with fabrication, yard, and marine teams on R&D.
• Maintain liaison with global technical groups (e.g., TWI, DNV, EWI) to stay updated on emerging technologies.
• Investigate metallurgical, welding, and quality issues and prescribe fit‑for‑purpose solutions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in welding engineering, preferably within pipeline or offshore projects.
• Proven ability to lead functional teams and manage complex technical deliverables.
• Strong analytical skills to resolve metallurgical and quality challenges.
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with customers, certifying bodies, and internal stakeholders.
