Principal Piping Engineer – Dubai

About the role

The Principal Piping Engineer will lead the design and execution of piping systems for large‑scale oil and gas projects in Dubai. Reporting to the Project Lead Engineer and Department Manager, the role requires independent problem‑solving and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams through conceptual, FEED and detailed design phases.

Key responsibilities

• Perform conceptual, FEED and detailed design analyses, preparing calculations, reports and design documentation in line with project scope, codes and McDermott procedures.
• Lead medium to large engineering and design teams, coordinating discipline execution, schedules, budgets and resource allocation.
• Interface with clients, certifying authorities, auditors and third‑party vendors to ensure compliance and clear communication of deliverables.
• Review and approve design philosophies, pipe supports, material take‑offs (MTO) and specifications, and support 3‑D model reviews at key milestones.
• Monitor key performance indicators, drive corrective actions, and represent the piping discipline during internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15‑20 years of piping engineering experience in oil & gas, including lead roles on FEED and EPC projects.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex project interfaces.
• Registered Professional Engineer or membership in a recognized engineering society is preferred.

Required skills

• Design and modelling using SP3D, E3D or Navisworks.
• Knowledge of international codes and standards such as ANSI, ASME, API, BS and NFPA.
• Pipe stress analysis, support design and material engineering (MTO).
• Project coordination, budgeting and schedule management.
