Principal Project Engineer – EPC & Detail Engineering

About the role

The Principal Project Engineer is responsible for interpreting business issues, recommending best practices, and solving complex project‑engineering problems. Working independently with minimal guidance, the role may also lead functional teams or projects within McDermott’s EPC and detail‑engineering activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the engineering scope of EPC projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality and technical requirements.
• Develop and implement Project Execution Plans, Division of Responsibility matrices, and multi‑office execution (MOPEX) strategies.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Design Leads, supervise Project Engineers, and ensure effective communication across disciplines.
• Prepare, review, and approve technical queries, design deviations, RFIs, meeting minutes, and weekly/monthly management reports.
• Control cost, schedule, quantity and budget, manage changes proactively, and lead project close‑out activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of EPC project engineering experience in offshore oil & gas, with at least 2‑4 years as a Project Engineering Manager.
• Proven experience on Saudi Aramco / KJO projects and multi‑disciplinary coordination.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and ability to work on international, joint‑venture or consortium projects.
