Principal Software Engineer

About the role

The Principal Software Engineer is a senior technologist within Emirates' Software Engineering capability, responsible for shaping enterprise‑wide engineering strategies, standards and guidelines. The role drives the design, development, deployment and operation of critical technology solutions that support planning, commerce, customer experience and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design and build for complex, cross‑team solutions and approve architecture patterns.
• Provide technical stewardship for a defined technology area, using deep stack expertise to solve business challenges.
• Champion automation, lean development, test‑driven development and incident post‑mortems; refine engineering playbooks.
• Lead discovery phases for medium to large projects, delivering high‑level designs and proof‑of‑concept prototypes.
• Investigate, debug and resolve complex edge‑case issues while promoting built‑in quality.
• Mentor and coach engineers on clean code, testing practices and code reviews.
• Develop accelerator frameworks and practices to improve solution quality and engineering productivity.
• Measure and monitor engineering metrics that ensure agility, scalability, data quality and reliability.
• Define and execute technical debt remediation strategies in collaboration with infrastructure and service teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a senior software engineer with a proven track record of technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in software programming, data engineering and big data analysis.
• Strong ability to conduct design reviews and enforce architectural standards.
• Experience championing automation, test‑driven development and continuous improvement.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills for complex, rare‑case scenarios.
• Demonstrated mentorship and coaching capabilities.
